WELCOME
The Order of the Knights of Rizal Scarborough Chapter is a proud member of some 10,000 civic-oriented international brotherhood serving in various communities around the world. This website is intended to (a) inform the general public about this Chapter’s part as well as those of other Chapters' in promoting the ideals and cause of Dr. Jose Rizal, Philippines' national hero and "Pride of the Malay Race". It is also intended to (b) serve as a platform for progressive thoughts and ideas espoused by Rizal. Lately, the brotherhood has been struggling with what may be described as "maturing pains" - it will be 96 years old this year (1911-2007). At the beginning of the new century the Order began to manifest itself as a truly international organization and as a consequence of present-day information and communications technology, a clash of cultures and mentalities among various chapters in different Continents became inevitable. And yet as history attests, the Rizalian spirit will remain strong and - under an anticipated new and federally oriented organizational structure - will enable the true Rizalists among its membership to overcome their trials and take the illustrious fraternity to greater heights of glory !
Special welcome to students in the Philippines on research assignment
We are delighted to have you browsing through these pages. We hope that as a result of your visit you are challenged to look far more deeply into the relevance of Rizal today and how his ideals should impact the lives of every citizen not just those in the Philippines but those in other countries as well. Remember that long before Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., there was Rizal who represented and advanced similar causes as they did: non-violent reforms and civil rights. We encourage you to visit often and, more importantly - to interact with us.

The 2007 European Assembly: A Vulgarity
The
calling of a convention in If one were to use a vulgar expression the message being sent to the Paras/Quiambao critics seems to be something like “up yours!” Come to think of it: the exercise, given the scandalous issues and events associated with Sir Paras is, we hesitate to say, itself a vulgarity. Why? Three reasons: First,
it gives the wrong message. If the esteemed leaders in Paras
is a non-nominated appointee whose strongly protested appointment is
believed to be purely political traced to a personal affiliation with Sir
Rogelio Quiambao, a former Supreme Commander and now a member of the Council of Elders. The appointment
bespeaks of a similar surprise appointment in 2005 of Sir Chito Collantes
as Deputy Regional Commander for Second,
the calling of the Assembly is a vulgarity because it negates the
conditions that in reality are indicative of an urgent need on the part of
the organization for a major self-examination. When as a result of the
Paras controversy some 25 distinguished Knights of Rizal in
Third, the calling of the European Assembly is a vulgarity because it underscores not only Manila’s defiance of reason but it also reveals its inability to manage an international organization. Once again, it draws attention to a mentality that is colonial, retrogressive and so limited it cannot grasp the depth of the concerns and the capabilities of an advanced, open-minded and culturally diverse society of Rizalists. It clings on to an archaic concept and trait only Filipinos understand. It is called “kayabangan”. What a shame.
